Fund administration 2020

The fund administration business is being affected both by growth in investible asset opportunities and consolidation among asset manager clients.  In a matter of years, the framework for providing fund services could radically change. How are fund admins responding?

Topics to be discussed include:

  • How is the fund administration model changing as services expand, technology requirements evolve, and service providers consolidate while others grow their business through complimentary acquisitions?

  • Does the growing popularity of new asset classes bring any additional challenges to the admin process?
  • What will be the trigger for institutional engagement with investment in crypto-assets? What are the most appropriate vehicles for such investments?

Panelists:

Jonathan Watkins, managing editor, Global Custodian (moderator)
Daniel Nikci, founder and principal, Applied Fund Solutions
Chris Meader, founder, North America Fund Administration Association
Daniel Smith, president, Trident Trust

Where is the prime brokerage industry heading?

Over the past few years, a number of trends have been identified in prime brokerage, but few of them have been sustained. Take, for example, the fall – and rise – of mini-primes, client shedding and retention, the importance (or not) of cap intro? Where are we now?

Topics to be discussed include:

  • How would you describe the PB service landscape today? What’s up? What’s down? (e.g., cap intro; consulting, mini-primes vs large full-service primes)
  • Are clients still looking to consolidate their broker lists?
  • How many of the trends in PB are driven by regulation rather than commercial initiative?
  • Is there much interaction between PB and custody divisions in your organisation, both functionally and in terms of service offerings to clients?

Confirmed panelists:

Joe Parsons, deputy editor, Global Custodian (moderator)
Emma Sugarman, global head of capital introduction, Cantor Fitzgerald
Jack Seibald, global co-head of prime brokerage and outsourced trading, Cowen
Bjorn Franson, vice president, prime services, BNY Mellon’s Pershing
