Bloomberg announced today the introduction of Launchpad, which allows clients to construct multiple data and real time pricing displays that reside on the PC Desktop in addition to the Bloomberg windows. This allows clients to create dynamic data displays using an extremely user friendly interface that takes full advantage of Bloomberg’s unrivalled real time, descriptive, calculated, historical and derived data.

“Launchpad represents the evolution of the BLOOMBERG PROFESSIONAL(r) product. It’s the next logical and innovative step in marrying Bloomberg’s functionality with the service and flexibility of the desktop.” said Richard Barnett, Project Manager for Launchpad, Bloomberg L.P “Our users have been asking for more flexibility to utilise Bloomberg data and we feel we have delivered a superior mechanism that allows our customers to design and edit their own display in a way that will help them make better and more informed decisions. “

Scheduled to go live in its first release this summer, Launchpad will allow users to combine up to 25 windows or ‘components’-including real time monitors, technical, intra-day and historical charts, company comparative analysis, quote lines and depth of market screens-to exist anywhere on a PC desktop. It will also allow users to create a custom component, which displays their favourite data fields from Bloomberg’s vast database, and apply it to a particular company or issuer. Launchpad will then allow components to be grouped together so that a change in one security is reflected across the entire group.

In 1995, the company launched the Bloomberg API (Application Program Interface), which offered clients the ability to bring Bloomberg data and analytics into their Excel spreadsheets or proprietary applications. Launchpad continues this customisable approach allowing components to exist on the PC Desktop. It is designed so that a user should be able to set up their own Launchpad ‘views’ or displays.

With its unrivalled customer support, a twenty-four-hour-a-day help desk will be on hand to answer any questions on Launch Pad and offer immediate assistance. On site training for this product will also be provided at no additional cost. Similarly the Launchpad product will be included with the existing Bloomberg Professional Service and therefore will incur no additional charge for displays.
