U.S. brokerage and clearing firm R.J. OBrien & Associates has hired David Mudie as CEO of its London-based subsidiary.

The independent futures brokerage and clearing firm was one of several to take advantage of a gap in the market following the closure of Penson Financial Services and MF Global by establishing a subsidiary in London earlier this year.

Mudie most recently served as European Head of Institutional and Retail Sales, Marketing and Execution for Penson in London. Previously, from 2009 to 2010, he was head of Fixed Income Prime Brokerage for MF Global UK in London. Before that he was SVP Derivatives Product Group, Prime Brokerage for Newedge in New York. Prior to that role, Mudie ran European Prime Brokerage for Refco Overseas Limited in London. He began his career in 1995 at Salomon Smith Barney International in London. In 1998, he joined Cantor Fitzgerald International Limited, where he spent six years in London, New York and Asia.

Said Mudie: “RJO has an incredible brand in the United States that the company has cultivated for nearly a century. I’m looking forward to extending that premium brand in the UK and throughout Europe with the same breadth of product, expertise and service that has earned the company such respect among clients and peers in the U.S. We will focus on the core products and middle market niche that has fueled RJO’s success in the States.”
