US and Japanese institutional investment into hedge fund assets will fuel a 20 per cent increase in assets under management by hedge funds in 2004, to a total of almost $700 billion. Or so predicts Virginia Parker, chief investment officer at fund-of-funds house Parker Global Strategies, according to a report in today’s Financial Times. Parker noted that the government pension investment fund in Japan was seeking permission to invest in hedge funds. Her tips as the hottest strategies in 2004 were long/short equity, merger arbitrage, currency macro and distressed investing.
