UBS announced today that Piero Novelli will join the firm as a Managing Director and Head of European Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A). Based in London, Novelli will report to James Neissa and Rick Leaman, Co-Heads of M&A, who are based in London and New York, respectively.
Novelli comes to UBS from Merrill Lynch where he worked for 12 years, most recently as Head of European M&A. While at Merrill, Novelli was responsible for the origination and execution of large and complex cross-border M&A transactions for major corporate clients across Europe and in the US.
“Piero’s decision to join UBS is evidence of our commitment to be the leading M&A bank in Europe,” said Alex Wilmot-Sitwell, Co-Head of European Investment Banking. “He is a highly talented banker with a long track record of providing unparalleled advice to corporate clients on transactions in a range of industries.”
Jeffrey McDermott, Co-Head of European Investment Banking, added, “Our goal is to establish UBS as the number one investment bank in Europe. We will achieve this through a relentless client focus and by selectively adding top-tier bankers that can help drive our business forward. Piero is the first example of our strategy in action.”
Novelli earned a Masters degree in Management from the Sloan School of Management at MIT and an MSc in Engineering from Universita di Roma, La Sapienza.
