The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) has published a list of the first companies that will trade in its new US dollar trading book from 2 February. They are Alcan Inc, Angiotech Pharmaceuticals, ATI Technologies, Barrick Gold, Canadian Natural Resources, Inco, Methanex Corporation, Placer Dome, Precision Drilling Corporation, Research in Motion Limited, Suncor Energy, and Wheaton River Minerals.

All of the participating companies will continue to be listed and traded in both Canadian and US dollars, with the US dollar trading symbol consisting of the Canadian symbol with an “U” extension. The opportunity to trade in US as well as Canadian dollars is part of the TSX’s efforts to broaden the range of trading products and services it offers investors. Later this year, TSX Markets also intends to launch a Market on Close facility, to better provide for closing pricing of stocks on Canada’s senior exchange.
