As we countdown to 2012, Global Custodian takes a look at what were the most popular headlines of this year, based on stories that received the most views.

Key People Moves such as the resignations of Dinkar Jetley and Roger Harrold from Deutsche Bank and their subsequent appointments by J.P. Morgan appeared to dominate the news agenda. Similarly, the European sovereign debt crisis and how that has affected service providers such as RBC Dexia, which sees the European half of that joint venture grappling with a funding shortfall, was also a popular story. Strategic moves by providers into markets formerly untouched by them, including Deutsche Banks expanding footprint in the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) also received a lot of interest.

Lawsuits were among other popular stories as institutional investors sought compensation from providers over FX fees and apparently risky investments. In January BNY Mellon was sued by the US states of Virginia and South Carolina, according to several news sources.
