The Tokyo Stock Exchange and the Shanghai Stock Exchange signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday that will commit the two exchanges to taking a closer look at combining their business operations.

The two exchanges already have a symbiotic relationship as a result of a prior MOU signed in 2002, allowing them to share information on market operations and to conduct staff exchange programs with each other.

The new MOU positions the two exchanges where they can further share information, including the possibility of developing joint products and exchanging IT information.
