Thomson Financial, an operating unit of the Thomson Corporation, today announced that Bob Lamoureux has been appointed vice president of technology strategy for Thomson Financial’s Investment Management Group. The Investment Management Group provides unparalleled solutions to support the buy- and sell-side activities of institutional clients’ investment management processes, from pre-trade security selection and research to post-trade portfolio management and analysis. Mr. Lamoureux reports to Jeremy Lehman, senior vice president and head of technology for the Investment Management Group.

In his new role, Mr. Lamoureux is responsible for defining the next generation architectural platform and framework to be used within the Investment Management Group offerings that help clients maximize their investment efficiency and performance. The next generation platform will leverage the Web services technology currently being used in the development of the First Call Analyst product line to offer a fully integrated suite of investment management workflow solutions. It will also provide Thomson clients and partners with greater scalability and flexibility, enabling them to access Thomson Financial’s unparalleled breadth and depth of content and powerful analytical functionality in ways that best meet their needs.

The Investment Management Group includes leading Thomson brands such as First Call, I/B/E/S, Datastream, Vestek, PORTIA, Nelson Information, Baseline, and the Oneva suite.

First Call Analyst is the real-time, integrated investment research and analytical application that combines premium content with sophisticated functionality and intelligent navigation. With the launch of First Call Link earlier this month, clients can now use this powerful add-in to First Call Analyst to dynamically integrate the content they need into their Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and models.

“Bob Lamoureux has made a big impact on how the capital markets use technology,” said Jeremy Lehman. “Bob’s ability to link business processes with technology changed the way the buy- and sell-sides work together on trading. Now he will apply that same insight to Thomson Financial’s integrated end-to-end workflow solutions for institutional investment managers worldwide.”

Mr. Lamoureux said, “Thomson Financial has many great assets that cover the whole realm of the investment management workflow. By utilizing Web services to leverage the strength of these assets, we can offer our clients flexible options, including the ability to integrate and customize our offerings into their own solutions.”

Mr. Lamoureux brings over twenty years of experience in the financial services, technology and telecommunications industries to his new role. Previously, he was chief technology officer of WorldStreet Corporation. He developed WorldStreet Net, a structured messaging solution designed to facilitate effective communication between the institutional buy- and sell-sides.

Thomson Financial acquired WorldStreet Net in February 2002 and has used the technology to develop Thomson Connect – the secure communication framework that enables real-time, controlled exchange of information and ideas among financial professionals with established relationships and shared interests.

Prior to WorldStreet, Mr. Lamoureux was senior vice president overseeing the FIX Transaction Services at Bridge Information Systems. He was responsible for the development and deployment of EasyFix, a Web-based trading platform that connects brokerage houses to financial institutions around the world via a standard protocol called FIX. Mr. Lamoureux co-authored FIX protocol during his tenure as director of investment technology at Fidelity Investments in the mid-1990s. FIX has become the industry standard for global equity transactions.
