A recent survey by targetjobs.co.uk, a graduate jobsite, of more than 2,300 student and graduates hoping to work in investment banking and investment, revealed the companies at the top of the job application list.
The Employer of Choice survey, conducted to gain an insight into perceptions of businesses by UK students and graduates, show that the top 10 most popular employers are: 1. Goldman Sachs 2. Morgan Stanley 3. JPMorgan 4. Deutsche Bank 5. Citigroup 6. HSBC Investment Bank 7. Barclays Capital 8. Merrill Lynch 9. Credit Suisse 10. UBS
Career prospects and development are clearly vital concerns for those interested in advertising and marketing, as the top 10 companies on the overall list were also rated among the best providers of work experience and internships. Forty-nine percent rated JPMorgan “excellent” in this area while 47% gave Goldman Sachs a similar rating.
More than 65% of all respondents cited training and development as a very important factor in deciding whether they would like to work for a particular company while less than 50% saw salary as a vital concern.
The survey also showed that today’s students are doing vast amounts of work to secure their first job. Almost a quarter of respondents claimed to have begun applying for jobs and 11.6% claimed to have already received an offer.
“Our research shows just how hard students are working to break into these industries, and this is great news,” says Paul Sissons, chief executive of targetjobs.co.uk. “Even if students do not receive an offer straightaway they must stay upbeat and focused — the research they do while at university will stand them in great stead in their future career.”
