Sun Microsystems today announced a new financing scheme for UK customers to buy mid-range servers immediately – but pay for them later. The scheme, called ‘Simply Deferred’, gives new and existing customers the choice of adding much needed computer capacity to their network while deferring lease payments by three months Subject to investment approval by Sun Microsystems Finance, or even longer, while incurring no additional interest charges.

The Simply Deferred scheme is available from now until 31st December 2002 and applies to any configuration of Sun Fire V880, 3800 and 4800 server products.

Sun recognises that IT departments need to increase network computer capacity while working under IT budgetary constraints. By using the Simply Deferred scheme, organisations can acquire the technology it needs now, without impacting its current IT budget. The first lease payment will be made in a new quarter and calendar year for most organisations. For some customers, the three month deferral period will mean the first payment is made during a new fiscal year, allowing customers to offset the cost against a new IT budget.

Mat Keep, server product manager, Sun Microsystems said, “Right now, every penny of an IT budget is being scrutinised and squeezed for maximum ROI and value. Even if there is no IT budget left, customers can still meet their capacity needs and pay for it later by simply deferring payment.

“The cost of deferring the payments is picked up by Sun – not passed onto the customer, so this is very different to an ‘interest-free’ offer. With interest-free offers the customer’s payments are reduced, but the customer still has to make payments straight away. If the customer doesn’t have any budget left, interest-free isn’t the best option to add immediate capacity – ‘Simply Deferred’ is.”
