State Street has hired Geoff Pullen to help develop sales for its European hedge fund and alternatives businesses.

The appointment is the latest move for State Street as it looks to build out its alternatives platform, with a specific focus on private equity and real assets.

Pullen will focus on the execution of regional sales across hedge and private equity clients, reporting to Maria Cantillion, global head of alternative asset manager solutions.

He joins from Standard Chartered where he was previously an executive director for transaction banking and securities services sales to European alternative and traditional money managers.

Pullen also served as head of asset managers sales for Europe at HSBC for over four years.

The appointment follows an increased drive into the alternatives space for State Street, as it looks to win new hedge fund and alternative manager clients through fund administration and financing deals.

State Street most recently launched a new back-office services unit for real estate and infrastructure funds to capture the move of alternative investment managers into these asset classes.

The Boston-based custodian has also boosted sales in Europe for enhanced custody, a financing and leverage service for hedge funds.
