State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the investment management arm of State Street Corporation, announced five new positions in its European product engineering team in London. Michael Arone has been appointed to the newly created position of vice president and head of product engineering for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Arone has relocated from State Street Global Advisors in Boston, along with Brett Collins. They are joined by Philip Barleggs, Jennifer Hole and Monica Fan.
SSgA’s European product engineering team covers the full range of asset classes, including equities, fixed income, asset allocation, currency and cash. Product engineers are investment professionals embedded in SSgA’s portfolio management teams, who act as a specialist resource in support of the client-facing teams and their clients and prospects. Product engineers at State Street Global Advisors also work closely with the company’s Advanced Research Center (ARC), and product development teams to enhance investment strategies and solutions for clients.
Arone was previously a senior portfolio manager on SSgA’s global active quantitative equity team in Boston. He has considerable experience developing long-only and long-short quantitative strategies and managing investment portfolios using quantitative disciplines. He relocated to London in late 2008.
Collins, vice president and product engineer in the global enhanced equities group, also relocated from Boston in late 2008. He will provide research and portfolio management support for the enhanced equity strategies. Collins joined State Street Global Advisors in 2004 and prior to this was a member of the emerging markets portfolio management team at Nomura Corporate Research and Asset Management.
Barleggs, a new addition to the product engineering team, joins as vice president and a senior member of the global fixed income team. He is responsible for product development and coverage of SSgA’s global fixed income strategies across EMEA. Barleggs joins from Insight Investment where he spent five years, most recently heading the team of fixed income products specialists and prior to that as a fund manager leading the asset allocation group, managing multi-asset/balanced funds.
Hole joins the global cash management team as vice president and product engineer, and is responsible for the continued enhancement and delivery of SSgA’s global cash management strategies across EMEA. She joins from Barclays Global Investors where she was a principal and cash strategist/product manager. Prior to this she worked at KPMG Consulting UK as an industry risk consultant.
Fan joins SSgA’s global currency team as a senior currency product engineer. She will be responsible for product development, research and contributing to investment management. Fan has more than a decade of experience in the capital markets as a strategist in currencies, fixed income and asset allocation. She was previously global head of currency strategy at RBC Capital Markets, and has also worked as a senior strategist at Bank of America, UBS and JP Morgan and as a consultant at Frank Russell and Oliver Wyman.
