Sally Russell, the former ProShare employee share ownership guru, has taken on a new expanded role at Computershare. She has been appointed UK General Manager, Business Development, a new position that encompasses all of Computershare’s shareholder services businesses including registry, corporate actions and share plans.

In her new role, she will be responsible for all business development, sales and marketing activities for Computershare Investor Services and Plan Managers. Sally will report directly to the managing director. Previously, she was Head of Business Development for Computershare Plan Managers.

“In just 18 months, Sally has established Computershare as the UK’s leading supplier of employee share plan services, bringing in such blue-chip names as BP, Whitbread, EMAP, Allied Domecq and mmO2. Plan Managers now runs share plans for over 160 UK clients” says Ed Stockdale UK managing director. “This is an important step for Computershare and brings her extensive experience to bear on the whole of our shareholder business. Sally will strengthen our European management team as we look to expand in mainland European markets.”

“Plan Managers has been a great success for Computershare and the market is still largely untapped” commented Sally, “widening the audience for employee share plans remains one of my key goals despite my broader role; rest assured that I will continue to champion employee share ownership while developing new business opportunities for Computershare.”

Before joining Computershare, Sally was Head of Employee Share Ownership at ProShare, the government backed organisation that promotes responsible share based investment in the UK. Her role at ProShare involved working closely with the Government and the Inland Revenue to improve the regulatory framework within which Employee Share Plans operate in the UK. She was heavily involved in the design and introduction of AESOPs (All Employee Share Ownership Plans), the forerunner of today’s Share Incentive Plans (SIPs), and is a member of the Inland Revenue’s working party to produce employer and employee guides to share plans.

In January, Computershare announced the appointment of Dr Iain Saville as Managing Director, Europe, as well as a joint venture with Deutsche Borse to provide share registration and related services to the German market.
