Robert Darmanin, a prominent figure in the American securities services industry in the 1990s, is returning to the industry by moving from New York to London to head European custody and pensions for the Bank of New York (BNY). Darmanin will report to Stephen Richardson, executive vice president and head of investor services, Europe.

Darmanin previously worked in the investment management banking division at BNY in New York, where he headed up corporate finance activities, business development and the relationship management with investment management clients.

Darmanin joined BNY when the bank acquired JP Morgan’s global custody business in 1996. At Morgan, he was responsible for its institutional funds group. Prior to that, he was head of worldwide sales, service and product management at Bank of America, where he was instrumental in the creation of its global custody operation.

“Robert’s wealth of experience combined with his existing knowledge of the bank will be an excellent asset to this role as we build our custody and pensions business in Europe,” says Stephen Richardson. “His appointment will not only strengthen the bank’s pension team, but also provide additional expertise when it comes to developing business strategies for the bank as a whole.”

Darmanin is a graduate of the London Guildhall University and a fellow of the Institute of Financial Accountants of England and Wales.
