The combined assets of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the US were worth $263.84 billion in October, according to ICI, the national association of the mutual fund industry.

Assets of all ETFs rose in October by $4.37 billion, or 1.7 percent, to $263.84 billion. Equity index ETF assets increased by $3.93 billion to $249.43 billion, while bond index ETF assets increased by $448 million to $14.40 billion. Assets of domestic equity ETFs increased by $3.91 billion, and international equity ETF assets increased by $18 million. During October, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $11.01 billion. The 132 ETFs that tracked domestic stock indexes in October held assets of $196.59 billion. Forty-nine ETFs tracked international equity indexes and held assets of $52.84 billion. And six ETFs tracked bond indexes.
