The Japanese Ministry of Finance says the new tax treaty between Japan and the UK, which was signed this February, enters into force on 12 October 2006 and applies to withholding tax on amounts taxable on and after 1 January 2007.

“Large impact is expected for UK beneficial owners and our clients who have such underlying clients,” says a spokeman for Mizuho Corporate Bank in Japan. “We will inform our clients when action is required.”
