Euroclear has appointed Paul Stockton as Managing Director and head of Finance for the Euroclear group. Stockton, who was previously Chief Financial Officer of Gerrard Limited, starts on 25 July. He will also become a member of the Euroclear Group Management Team.

He replaces Frdric Hannequart, who was appointed Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Euroclear SA/NV in January 2005, following the untimely death of the previous incumbent, Theo Van Engeland, in September 2004.

“We are delighted to welcome such an able and committed finance professional as Paul Stockton,” says Frederic Hannequart. “He brings with him a wealth of experience in key financial areas, and I am confident that he will make a very positive contribution to the Euroclear group as we forge ahead with our strategy to deliver a domestic settlement market for Europe.”

In his new role, Stockton will assume group-level management responsibilities across a range of finance-related disciplines, including accounting, tax and financial control, financial analysis, planning and reporting, corporate procurement and facilities management. He will also direct and co-ordinate activities with the various regulatory, tax and government agencies monitoring Euroclear’s financial situation.

As CFO of Gerrard Limited, the private-client stockbroking firm owned by Barclays Bank, Stockton held senior responsibility in a variety of domains, including finance, risk, strategy, compliance and corporate governance. Prior to joining Gerrard, he spent two years as Director of Finance of Old Mutual plc in London. Stockton began his career with Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers), working in senior management-consulting positions in insurance and financial services in both the United Kingdom and the United States.
