Optima Fund Management is launching the Perennial Growth Fund, a long/short US and international equity fund focused on the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector.

The Perennial Growth Fund is advised by Wayne Wilkey of Ampere Capital Management, a firm he set up in March 2002 after leaving Ardsley Partners where he had served as General Partner in charge of TMT investment within a peak investment portfolio of $3bn. Wilkey started his hedge fund career when he joined Moore Capital as an analyst in 1992.

The Perennial Growth Fund portfolio began trading at Ampere Capital in March 2002 and will be launched by Optima, on 2nd January 2004 in an offshore, Bermuda- registered structure and as a domestic US Limited Partnership. Theaim of the Fund is to produce superior returns during a positive equity market and consistent returns, with minimum volatility, during a down market.

“We are very excited by the opportunity to set up a fund with Wayne Wilkey,” says Dixon Boardman, Managing Director, Optima Fund Management. “Wayne is one of the most talented and experienced investors in the TMT segment and delivers precisely what you want from a good hedge fund.”

Ampere Capital combines bottom-up, fundamental analysis with deep industry experience and a rigorous investment process. The fund undertakes a high degree of hedging (at the portfolio and sector level) and disciplined position sizing to aim for low volatility.
