The New York Stock Exchange, a subsidiary of NYSE Euronext (NYX), highlights program-trading information for the period from 29 December till 2 January.

Program trading includes a wide range of portfolio-trading strategies involving the purchase or sale of a basket of at least 15 stocks. During the mentioned period program trading amounted to 35.1% of NYSE average daily volume of 2,220.6 million shares1, or 779.3 million program shares traded per day.

In all markets, program trading by member firms averaged 2,221.7 million shares a day during Dec. 29-Jan. 2. About 35.1% of program trading took place on the NYSE, 0.7% in non-U.S. markets and 64.2% in other domestic markets, including Nasdaq, the American Stock Exchange and regional markets.
