Continuing its investment in its Japan Equity franchise, Lehman Brothers, the global investment bank, has appointed Kunio Tahara as managing director and head of Equity Trading in Japan.

The appointment of Tahara apparently reflects Lehman Brothers commitment to Japans equity market where the firm offers a full range of services, including cash and volatility trading, top ranked prime brokerage services and an advanced electronic trading platform. The firm is focusing significant resources on the Japan market as its local client base expands in size and importance. Lehman Brothers is one of the most active trading participants on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, accounting for 9% of trading volume in the first quarter of 2008.

“Kunios arrival will complement our Equity franchise in Japan. His strong expertise in the Japanese equity market will be key as Lehman Brothers continues to deepen its reach into Japans domestic client base across equity products,” says Siggi Thorkelsson, head of Equities, Asia-Pacific, Lehman Brothers.

Tahara joins Lehman Brothers after 17 years with Goldman Sachs where he was most recently head of Japanese Equity Trading. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the faculty of Economics at Keio University.
