International law firm Maples and Calder has promoted Robert McIntyre to managing partner of their British Virgin Islands (BVI) office.
McIntyre moved to the BVI in 1996 and was made a partner in 2000. He specialises in the formation, regulation and maintenance of investment funds in BVI. He acts for leading investment managers, fund administrators and financial institutions across the US and offshore. In his new role as managing partner he will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the BVI office, as well as continuing to develop new business in the funds market.
“The BVI is one of our key strategic jurisdictions and Robert is well respected in the market,” says Gus Pope, a global managing partner at Maples and Calder. “Under his leadership I have no doubt the office will continue its rapid expansion.”
“I am delighted to be leading the BVI office at this exciting time,” adds McIntyre. “In the last ten years, BVI has firmly established itself as a key global offshore jurisdiction. I arrived in BVI in 1996 when the Mutual Funds Act had just been passed. The Act was fully implemented in 1998 and now, in 2007, BVI is over 2,500 active funds. One of the main reasons for BVIs popularity as a funds domicile is that the legislation is user-friendly.”
