Since 1977, The Stock Market Game (SMG) program has been simulating financial markets, portfolios, and live trades in classrooms all over the country. Groups of students, armed with a virtual cash account of $100,000, compete for best-performing portfolio and subsequent top spot in the game. Now Wachovia Securities and the Foundation for Investor Education have launched a pilot model of the program.

New features, aided by a $172,500 sponsorship, include partnering company financial advisers with local school teachers to provide students with first-hand accounts of financial markets, teacher recruitment, and additional resources for classroom presentations. The gift also funds a national portfolio competition for student teams across the country.
