HSBC Hong Kong is to add 200 sales and service staff to its personal finance unit in the territory this year, a top executive said on Thursday.

Like local rivals such as Bank of East Asia and BOC Hong Kong, HSBC is boosting the securities and insurance operations of its personal finance arm as it makes less money in its traditional business of taking deposits and making loans.

The world’s second-largest bank by market value plans to open between 7 and 25 financial centers targeting clients for those fee-based services this year, said Dorothy Sit, head of personal financial services in Hong Kong.
