HSBC Corporate, Investment Banking & Markets (CIBM) has hired Ian Cohen as global equities business strategy officer and head of equity market structures, Europe.

In this newly created role, he will be responsible for coordinating equities business strategy globally and for all commercial and structural matters associated with HSBC’s trading activities with exchanges, broker/dealers and other key market counterparties in Europe.

Cohen joins HSBC from Buttonwood Tree Group, an AIM-listed financial services consultancy where he was a founding member and acting chief executive officer. Prior to joining Buttonwood, Cohen was chief executive officer of Jiway Broker Services, the cash equities exchange created by Morgan Stanley and OM Group. Cohen formerly held positions as European head of external risk assessment with Morgan Stanley, Global COO of Technology for Barclays Capital and IT Director for Clearstream.

Kevin Bourne, global head of Execution Trading commented: “We’re delighted to welcome someone of Ian’s experience to HSBC. We are continually looking at ways of allowing our clients to efficiently and effectively access the equity markets and liquidity they want. As we continue to develop our market access offering, Ian’s arrival is key to its implementation.”
