Nomura announced today that it has appointed Robert Koenig as Head of TMT and Financial Sponsors Investment Banking in Europe. Koenig was previously Co-Head of European Telecom Corporate Finance for Deutsche Bank in London.

Koenig has over 16 years’ investment banking experience at Deutsche Bank, having worked in a number of different industry and product groups. He has spent the past five years leading the European telecoms corporate finance team, focusing on account coverage of the incumbent, mobile, alternative carrier and cable operators. He had previously spent six years with Deutsche Bank Alex Brown in New York, leading the US telecoms corporate finance practice. Prior to that he held positions at Deutsche Morgan Grenfell in New York and Frankfurt and Deutsche Bank Realty Advisors in New York and Tokyo. In his new role at Nomura, Mr Koenig will report to Mr Yoshiyuki Numano, Head of Corporate Finance, Europe, who has recently transferred from the company’s M&A division in Tokyo.

His appointment follows that of Christian Thun-Hohenstein as Co-Head of Investment Banking, Europe, who has joined Nomura from Deutsche Bank where he was Co-Head of European Investment Banking.

Mr Numano commented on the appointment, “Robert Koenig has a strong track record and an impressive record of transactions in the telecoms sector. He also has valuable experience of working in different international markets, including Tokyo, New York, London and Frankfurt which will be beneficial as we seek to expand our global presence.”

Koenig has a Masters in Management from Kellogg Graduate School of Business and a Masters in International Management from the Galvin School of Management (Thunderbird). He will be based at the company’s European headquarters in London.
