Citigroup is to move 1,600 technology jobs out of Manhattan to Warren Township, New Jersey, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg confirmed on Tuesday. In addition, the bank will hire another 650 employees over the next two years to work at the new facility it is building there, New Jersey Governor James McGreevey said in a separate statement.

Bloomberg said Citigroup was expanding its presence in the city by building a new 14-story, 475,000 square-foot building in Long Island City, in the borough of Queens. Citigroup will have a “net job growth” of 600 employees in the city over two years, the Republican mayor said. Some 750 Citigroup workers now working in New Jersey will be shifted to the new Warren Township facility, the Democratic governor added.
