The Ukrainian Parliament accepted the resignation of the Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Mr. Serhiy Tihipko and appointed Mr. Volodymyr Stelmakh to this position.

Tihipko had been the Chairman of the NBU since December 2002. At that time he was appointed with assistance of the pro-presidential majority and replaced Mr. Stelmakh at this position who was NBU Chairman from 2000. Before that, Mr. Stelmakh was NBU Deputy Chairman, according to a BA-CA news flash.

413 people’s deputies voted for the resignation and 428 for the appointment.

BA-CA says Stelmakh is considered a reputable and experienced banker.
