Barclays is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert E Diamond as Chairman of Barclays Global Investors (“BGI”). He succeeds Matthew W Barrett in this position.
The role as Chairman of BGI will be in addition to Diamond’s separate responsibilities as Chief Executive of Barclays Capital. BGI will remain a distinct business unit within the Barclays Group, recognising the different nature of the business and its fiduciary responsibilities to clients.
Commenting on the appointment Matthew W Barrett remarked “We see strong growth prospects at BGI as well as the scope for more collaboration with other areas of the Group. I have asked Bob to take on this additional responsibility so that we can focus more senior management attention within Barclays on developing BGI’s business. He has a proven track record in developing intellectual capital businesses and will provide sponsorship for the business at the Group Executive Committee.”
The Co-Chief Executives of BGI, Blake Grossman and Andrew Skirton report to Naguib Kheraj, Deputy Chairman of BGI, who in turn reports to Robert E Diamond.
