The number of trades on SETS the Exchange’s electronic order book, increased 52 per cent in September 2002 to 2.3 million trades compared with 1.5 million in September 2001. However, the value traded on SETS decreased by three per cent, from 59.8 billion in September 2001 to 58.1 billion in 2002. The SETS market share was 65 per cent in September 2002, compared with 63 per cent in September 2001.

The average daily number of trades on SETS rose to 111,612 in September 2002, up 45 per cent on 77,178 in September 2001. There were 21 trading days in September 2002 compared with 20 days in September 2001.

The average daily number of UK and international trades on the Exchange rose slightly from 217,541 in September 2001 to 218,331 in September 2002.

There were 14 new issues during the month, of which 3 were IPOs (1 Main Market and 2 AIM), raising 22.4 million (September 2001: 75.3m).
