Erich Hampel is stepping down as CEO and will become deputy chairman of Bank Austrias Supervisory Board According to the Supervisory Board decision from 29 July of this year, Willibald Cernko, 53, will take over as CEO of Bank Austria tomorrow. His predecessor, Erich Hampel, will become the deputy chairman of the banks Supervisory Board on the same day, and will also continue to be a member of the Supervisory Board for five subsidiaries of Bank Austria in Central and Eastern Europe.

I am pleased to take over leadership of Bank Austria during these challenging times, says Willibald Cernko, CEO of Bank Austria. Not only are we the largest and most profitable bank in Austria, but we also manage the largest banking network in Central and Eastern Europe within UniCredit Group. If you start a race in pole position, your aim can only be to expand your lead. And this will be my aim to strengthen our leading role in Austria and Central and Eastern Europe in my new position. After all, I am taking over the helm of a well managed bank with outstanding employees, which Erich Hampel successfully led through the financial crisis and which, as a part of UniCredit Group, has unmatched international potential in Austria.

I am pleased that my successor, Willi Cernko, has not only been a colleague of mine for years but is also one of the most experienced managers in our Group, and I wish him and his team great success, says Erich Hampel, deputy chairman of Bank Austrias Supervisory Board. In my Supervisory Board function in Austria and CEE, I will remain closely connected with our Group and look forward to continuing to offer my experience in order to benefit our customers and employees.
