National Australia Bank UK (NAB UK) has appointed Xchanging – the business process outsourcing company that controls the former Deutsche Bank transactions processing entity in Frankfurt – to manage indirect spending and transactional procurement processing on behalf of its two UK retail banks, Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank.

The deal covers all of the indirect spend transacted by Clydesdale Bank, headquartered in Glasgow, and Yorkshire Bank, headquartered in Leeds, both wholly owned subsidiaries of NAB UK. The sourcing categories include: marketing, ATMs, travel, recruitment, facilities/utilities management as well non-core IT spend.

As part of the partnership, Xchanging will also manage the banks’ transactional procurement activity, such as order raising and invoice processing, by delivering a fully managed procure-to-pay service.

“Xchanging’s expertise and purchasing power will quickly deliver real benefits to the two banks,” says David Andrews, Chief Executive Officer of Xchanging. “This arrangement, which is one of the largest of its type, reinforces Xchanging’s strong position in the procurement services international marketplace.”

Tom Burns, General Manager, Operations of NAB UK, said the outsourcing deal was part of a “simplification strategy” being pursued by NAB in the UK.
