So far we know only that it is not their biggest client, Morgan Stanley, who must have baulked at paying a nine-digit sum for a firm they more or less created. Nor is it State Street, though the Boston-based global custodian is known to be quietly assembling a substantial capability in hedge fund administration. In which case the likeliest buyer is a major orthodox fund administrator, probably of American origin, under pressure from existing clients to develop alternative investing capability.
