Wheat, the executive search firm specializing in securities servicing, transaction banking, global markets and infrastructure and support, has appointed John Byrne to head up their newly opened office in Hong Kong.

Byrne, who has been based in Asia since August 2007, graduated from the University of Leeds in 1998 with a BA (Hons) Economics. He began his recruitment career with Robert Walters in 1999 and worked for them in London and Sydney before moving into executive search when he transferred to Hong Kong.

We took our time to find the right person to head up our Asia practice, and we feel that John is a first rate headhunter who will be an excellent culture carrier for the firm as we expand, says Wheat founder George Corbett. His in-depth knowledge of local markets was crucial to our decision making, and we are absolutely delighted to have him on board.”

Byrne will be working closely with George and Joe Thomas, who co-founded Wheat in 2000, offering a front-to-back search solution for director- and MD-level mandates across sales, product development, client service and operations.

I feel I have joined a really strong franchise at a very exciting time, Byrne says. The securities industry needs a dedicated search specialist in Asia, and we intend to deliver.
