Initial results from the EDHEC European ETF Survey, a comprehensive report on current ETF practices by asset managers and institutional investors in Europe, indicate that more than half of the survey respondents expect the use of ETFs to increase in the future, well ahead of the corresponding figures for futures, index funds and total return swaps.
55 percent of the respondents predict an increase in the usage of ETFs in the next few years, compared to only 34 percent for futures, and 29 percent and 28 percent respectively for index funds and total return swaps.
48 percent of European asset managers and institutional investors have implemented a core-satellite type organisation of their allocation and 9 percent will do so soon.
24 percent of the asset managers and institutional investors use ETFs to carry out tactical allocation.
Emerging markets, commodities and alternative asset classes generally are the future areas of development in the view of a majority of the respondents to the survey.
