Most U.S. investors think stockbrokers and financial planners who provide investment advice should be governed by equally stringent investor protection rules, according to an Opinion Research Corporation (ORC) national opinion survey.
The new ORC survey of U.S. investors will serve as a strong challenge to the wisdom of any appeal by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of a March federal court ruling overturning the commission’s controversial “broker dealer rule,” the corporation said in a statement.
Under that rule, the SEC would allow stockbrokers to continue to provide investment advice under looser rules than are in place for investment advisers.
