The combined assets of the nation’s exchange-traded funds (ETFs) were $312.79 billion in January, according to the Investment Company Institute.
The Washington-based group’s monthly statistical collection includes the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange-traded funds.
Equity index ETF assets increased in January by $16.14 billion to $297.15 billion, while bond index ETF assets increased by $636 million to $15.64 billion.
Assets of domestic equity ETFs increased by $6.79 billion and international equity ETF assets increased by $9.35 billion. During January, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $2.87 billion.
Overall, there were 201 ETFs, with the 146 ETFs that tracked domestic stock indexes in January holding assets of $222.60 billion. Forty-nine ETFs tracked international equity indexes and held assets of $74.56 billion. And six ETFs tracked bond indexes.
