The combined assets of the nation’s closed-end funds were $269.00 billion at the end of June 2005, the Investment Company Institute reported in a quarterly statistical collection of closed-end funds.
Total closed-end fund assets increased $9.55 billion during the second quarter. Equity fund assets increased by $7.30 billion to $95.10 billion, and bond fund assets increased by $2.25 billion to $173.89 billion.
ICI’s data collection also includes the value of new proceeds invested in closed-end funds and the total number of funds. For the quarter, proceeds to closed-end funds were $5.27 billion, compared with a revised $9.25 billion in the first quarter. There were 635 closed-end funds as of the end of the second quarter 2005. Bond funds numbered 457, and equity funds totaled 178. There were 619 closed-end funds at year-end 2004.
