Italian bank Unicredito Italiano is expected to finalise the purchase of Swiss private bank Banca del Gottardo from Swiss Life by the middle of this month. The price is expected to be CHF1.5 billion ($1.2 billion). Unicredito plans to build its private banking business around Gottardo, which is based in the Italian-speaking Swiss canton of Ticino, and has clients in Italy as well as Switzerland already.
