Mutual fund administrator Ultimus Fund Solutions has appointed David James as its general counsel and director of fund administration.

James joins from State Street where he previously headed up the fund administration legal department, providing legal regulatory services to over 60 mutual fund complexes.

He will be responsible for all legal aspects of Ultimus’ operations and strategic initiatives, while also overseeing its fund administration department.

This will include the overall delivery of services, contractual matters, product development, and provide support to the Ultimus management team.

“David’s 20-plus years focusing on the 40 Act and providing leadership to large fund administration departments brings additional depth and breadth which allows us to grow and expand our service model,” said Gary Tenkman, president, Ultimus.

“David will be instrumental in partnering with our asset management clients as they continue to navigate the complexities of today’s regulatory environment.”

Earlier this year, Ultimus acquired private equity fund administrator Woodfield Fund Administration, taking its assets under administration to $75 billion.
