S&P/TSX Stock Exchange Composite Index jumped 188.59 points, or 1.66%, Thursday on the heels of an announcement by the Federal Reserve Bank that US interest rates will see an increase in coming months.

The Fed added a quarter point to interest rates, creating a 5.25% interest rate.

Though the relatively small increase assuaged worries of a higher hike the bank’s board also determined that “inflation fears remain.”

The combination of fears such as this combined with quick rises in the US GDP has lead some marketers to believe another rate decision could come in August.
