Several presses reported on August 27 that the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) planned to list a gold-linked ETF next spring.

Most of the ETFs available in Japanese market are mainly linked to stock indices; the gold-linked ETF listed on the Osaka Securities Exchange (OSE) on August 10 is the only commodity-linked ETF so far in the Japan market.

The ETF on the OSE is a product repackaging gold-linked EFTs issued in London. According to the reports on Monday, the TSE is considering an ETF composed of gold commodity, and plan to list it as the first ETF that can be exchanged for gold in Japan Market.

TSE states in reply to Mizuho’s interview that TSE considered an ETF composed of gold commodity preferable, but they are still studying if it is possible to list such an ETF within the current legal framework. TSE also clarified that they made no official announcement on August 27.
