The recent flurry of trading platform acquisitions mark a growing desire among institutional brokers to expand their product offerings into the realm of execution management solutions, a new TowerGroup report says.

ITG’s recent acquisition of Macgregor and Eze Castle’s acquisition and into ConvergEx buttresses TowerGroup’s finding that brokers are tying to better own the buy-side client’s trade lifecycle.

With acquisitions of this nature occurring at a rate of about two a year, it is becoming more apparent that EMSs have become vital component in the overall IT equation.

“It’s clear that for brokers, EMSs are becoming increasingly central to their broader business strategies,” says Gavin Little-Gill, research area director at TowerGroup overseeing the Investment Management and Brokerage & Wealth Management practices. “Whether brokers build, acquire or white label, EMSs have evolved into a required product offering for the brokerage community.”
