TIBCO Software, a provider of integration software, has initiated what it is calling Complex Event Processing (CEP).

Tibco says CEP is an emerging technology that extracts information from distributed message-based systems, databases and applications in real time with the aim of providing an organization with the capability to define, manage and anticipate exceptions and opportunities in complex, heterogeneous IT environments.

“Incorporating CEP provides customers with end-to-end visibility into operational performance ranging from IT to business, enhanced customer awareness and retention, increased business agility, and faster, more accurate regulatory reporting capabilities,” boasts a Tibco spokesman.

As part of TIBCO’s CEP initiative, Stanford University Professor David Luckham, an expert on CEP and author of ‘The Power of Events,’ will speak with TIBCO at the Gartner Application Integration and Web Services Summit in Orlando, Florida on November 15, 2004.

Luckham will talk about the concepts behind CEP and discuss its critical role in solving emerging IT and business challenges, such as massive growth and managing complexity of enterprise events. TIBCO customer Merial, an animal healthcare company, will discuss their use of CEP.

“As the number of event sources and applications grow with the increased demand for faster execution of processes, organizations are in dire need of new technologies that can help them manage the complexity of their environment. The events organizations have access to are not always tailored to the problems they are trying to solve,” says Luckham. “Therefore, companies need a technology that enables them to recognize relevant patterns of events, monitor them and correlate the information contained within those events so that they can improve organizational responsiveness and insight.”

“Businesses need the tools that will help them be more predictive and proactive in managing their operations,” says Ram Menon, senior vice president, Worldwide Marketing, TIBCO Software Inc. “Complex Event Processing enables organizations to recognize relevant patterns of events and correlate information contained within those events to quickly address business and IT challenges and opportunities. TIBCO is pioneering technology in this space by committing to the delivery of products and technologies that solve complex problems that provide a host of new opportunities for organizations to improve their operations and ultimately help them be more profitable.”
