Thomson Prometric, the global leader in assessment services, and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), has made a deal to provide test development and delivery services for Cognos, a leading provider of business intelligence and performance planning software. Under the agreement, Thomson Prometric will develop 12 new exams to be administered via computer-based format in Prometric-affiliated testing centers worldwide.

Cognos certification tests measure the candidate’s knowledge of Cognos’ software products. Multiple levels of certification are available. The program is open to all partners, Cognos employees and customers who build, deploy, support and deliver training on the Cognos software. Cognos chose Thomson Prometric, a customer and partner, for the company’s psychometric expertise, global testing network with more than 3,000 testing centers, and ability to offer a secure testing environment.

Cognos is currently a customer of Thomson NETg, a fellow Thomson Learning company. Having experienced success with Thomson NETg’s learning services, Cognos chose another Thomson company when the need arose for test development and delivery services for its certification program.

“Thomson Prometric is pleased to be able to help Cognos update and enhance its testing program,” says Alex Gray, Executive Director, Client Services, Corporate/IT Market Segments, Thomson Prometric. “We pride ourselves in our ability to deliver psychometrically sound exams in a secure environment and we look forward to providing our expertise to meet Cognos’s testing program needs. That our engagement with Cognos grew out of their existing relationship with our sister company Thomson NETg underscores the cooperation and collaboration among the companies in the Thomson Learning family and our ability to offer the most comprehensive solutions to clients.”

“We were looking for a test provider with a secure delivery channel and superior test development services, and we were pleased when Thomson NETg, our online learning provider, referred us to one of their fellow Thomson businesses,” says David Pratt, Vice President of Global Professional Services at Cognos. “Thomson Prometric is an excellent partner for us as we seek to enhance the quality and global reach of our certification program.”
