Teradata Corporation announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned Teradata in the Leaders Quadrant in its 2009 Magic Quadrant (MQ) for Data Warehouse Database Management Systems (DBMS), authored by Donald Feinberg and Mark A. Beyer (Jan 28, 2010). The yearly report analyses the data warehouse DBMS market, vendor vision and execution capabilities.

The report specifically highlights the active role of Teradatas customers in enhancing products and services. Teradatas continuous innovation is our fast lane to data warehousing leadership, and our close collaboration with hundreds of enthusiastic customers is a key success driver for us, says Darryl McDonald, chief marketing officer of Teradata. Our business thrives on positive customer engagements and glowing references. Everywhere you look, Teradata customers voice their interests and ideas, serving actively on our product and industry advisory teams and participating as lead organisers of our educational user conferences. Shared enthusiasm makes data warehousing an agile, fast-paced team sport as well as a serious business science.

McDonald said that the Gartner report is clear and straightforward for CIOs, who have to beat economic pressure and data complexity with business agility and analytic intelligence. In the concluding remarks of the reports Teradata section, I agree with the language encouraging decision-makers to focus on design criteria regarding mixed workload demands, balanced system requirements and data optimisation advantages because thats exactly why companies choose Teradata. We understand the design requirements, business demands and the economics of data warehousing like no other vendor because weve built so many of these systems for leading companies. We attract buyers who expect the kind of performance and ROI from Teradata that other systems cannot deliver.

McDonald said that Teradatas capabilities and product innovation are relevant to the companys review and positioning. Teradatas recent innovations include the introduction of a solid state system that delivers 150X speed as an engine for the worlds first hyper-analytic data warehouse, the Teradata Enterprise Analytics Cloud, a new geospatial solution, and the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family of appliances and enterprise systems.
