SchlumbergerSema, the IT arm of Schlumberger Limited, and Sun Microsystems, have reached an agreement by which SchlumbergerSema will deploy Sun’s utility computing architecture to its customers in the energy and telecoms sectors.

“With SchlumbergerSema and Sun, customers have the ability to scale up and scale down on processing capacity, as well as pay only for the increments utilised, enabling companies to predict and control costs of securely shared IT resources,” says Hossein Sazegar, vice president, Computing Infrastructure Outsourcing, SchlumbergerSema. “Our experience at providing variable-cost and variable-capacity solutions has shown that such models can address business objectives to generate immediate cost-efficiencies and improve return on investment.”

Customers will be able to pay for the computing resources they use through Sun’s resource metering capabilities. “Sun is working with SchlumbergerSema because they are a leading technology service provider with a long history of helping customers control IT costs and complexities,” says Patricia C. Sueltz, executive vice president, Sun Services. “This agreement is another demonstration that Sun’s utility computing initiative is gaining solid traction and momentum in the partner community.”
