Sun Microsystems has promoted Leslie Stretch, head of its UK and Ireland operations, to a “global role” at Sun headquarters in California. Trudy Norris-Grey from Oracle UK has been selected as successor.

Leslie Stretch, Vice President and Managing Director for the past two years, has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Global Alliances, Partners and Channel based at the company’s corporate headquarters in Menlo Park, California, USA, effective immediately.

Stretch joined Sun from Oracle nine years ago to run the UK & Ireland subsidiary. His new role provides him with an opportunity to do something similar on a larger scale.

Trudy Norris-Grey joins Sun UK & Ireland from Oracle UK, which she joined in 2000.

Oracle is Sun’s closest software partner.

Prior to joining Oracle, Norris-Grey was Marketing Director at Kodak Professional, Europe Middle East and Africa and prior to that held a number of senior management positions at Digital UK & Ireland.

“I am absolutely delighted to be given the opportunity to contribute to a new era for Sun Microsystems as we simplify and consolidate to a single `Alliance Sales Organisation’ that can truly leverage the tremendous support and intellectual capital contained within our partners globally,” says Stretch. “This comes at a time when our competitors are abandoning some of their most loyal partners and even worse have begun competing with them for systems integration and business process work. I will miss the people at Sun UK & Ireland, it is a committed and talented customer-focused team, I will also miss our customers and partners many of whom I have long standing relationships with. In Trudy Norris-Grey we have selected somebody with exactly the right blend of capabilities supported by a proven track record to take Sun’s UK & Ireland business forward to new heights.”

Trudy Norris-Grey, describes Sun as a “fabulous” company. It is, she says, a “company which puts customers, partners and employees right at the heart of its thinking. I am proud and excited to have the opportunity to lead the UK and Ireland organisation. The management team has already delivered six consecutive growth quarters and I am looking forward to working together to sustain that growth as we deliver exceptional and innovative solutions and services to the market place”.
