Northern Trust has appointed Sue Baines as vice president, business development within its Global Fund Services (GFS) team in London. She will work alongside Jeremy Hester and will report directly to Penelope Biggs, Head of Corporate and Institutional Services (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

Baines will be responsible for custody, fund administration and investment operations outsourcing business development, focusing on asset managers in the UK, and continental Europe. She will play a key role in assessing and capitalizing on new opportunities, a number of which will arise upon completion of Northern Trust’s acquisition of the Baring Financial Services Group administration business.

She joins Northern Trust from Clearstream International, where she was deputy head of origination, responsible for sales planning and development of new business opportunities, and worked on various strategic and customer related projects following a senior role in Strategic Planning. Prior to this, she spent 12 years at Barclays, in Global Securities Services and latterly as head of customer relations at Barclays Insurance.

Commenting on the appointment, Biggs said, “We are delighted that Sue has joined Northern Trust. Her expertise and experience in generating and managing new business opportunities complements the existing sales team and will enable us to maximise new business opportunities at a time when we are seeing growing demand for Northern Trust’s global asset administration capabilities.”
