Sterling Commerce, the EAI or systems integration business owned by SBC Communications, has launched a new version (Version 3.0 ) of its flagship Business Process Management (BPM) and integration platform, Sterling Integrator, into the EMEA market. The new release “includes significant product enhancements.”

Sterling Integrator version 3.0 includes a mail-boxing capability, which offers a secure repository for the ‘staging’ of data, allowing users to manage the batched exchange of information. Sterlinmg says the management of both real-time and batch processing on the same system will reduce the piecemeal approach to integration and lower support costs – thereby reducing total cost of ownership for users.

New components and adaptors included in the new version include support for TRADACOMS, RosettaNet 1.1 (which enhances previous 2.0 support), UCCnet 2.2.1 and E5. Sterling Integrator version 3.0 also offers extended support for enterprise application integration (EAI) and technology adapters, including the J2EE Connector Architecture adapter, allowing business processes to be initiated from external J2EE applications.

“Sterling Commerce, with the latest version of its Sterling Integrator solution, has pushed strongly into the integration market,” says Teresa Jones, Research Analyst for the Butler Group. “The support for BPML is a significant feature that differentiates it from some of the other integration and BPM vendors. In addition, the ability to support a range of integration methods from batch-based to real-time means that integration can be carried out in the most appropriate way.”

Chris Hayes, Sterling Commerce Solutions Manager, EMEA, added: “With Sterling Integrator version 3.0 we have increased the scalability and flexibility of our proven business integration platform even further, specifically to maximise the benefit of our customers’ existing IT systems. This new version of our market-leading technology will provide increased cost efficiency and even better return on investment for our customers.”

More than 500 businesses worldwide already use Sterling Integrator to meet their integration requirements, driven by issues such as Global Data Synchronisation (GDS), standards compliance, supply chain integration, AS2 communications, BPM and for internal SAP and legacy-based integration requirements.

Sterling Integrator version 3.0 has added platform support for mainframe and mid-range server systems, including mainframe ( zSeries platforms running z/OS and SUSE Linux Enterprise ) and IBM iSeries platforms running OS/400. Compatible platforms already include UNIX, RedHat Linux and Windows 2000 Server.

Sterling Commerce is a wholly owned subsidiary of SBC Communications Inc. Its original expertise was in EDI.
